We are a group of ARPA Active Over 50s members who get together each Thursday morning for a walk of about 2 hours duration. We aim to cover between 5 and 8 kilometres in this time. Locations can be anywhere in the Adelaide suburbs, with starting points varying each week. As members’ homes are all across Adelaide we try to distribute starting points so that there is an equitable distance for everyone to travel over the months.
We walk every Thursday starting promptly at 10:00 am. We ask people to arrive prior to 9:45 to record attendance, convey any notices to the group, give information about next week’s walk and describe the current walk. Walks normally finish around noon, so lunch is an obvious extension. We visit bakeries, cafes, hotels or have lunch in the park. Participation is entirely voluntary.
Your suggestions for walks, lunches and other activities are always most welcome.
Our walks commence at the beginning of February and finish for the year at the end of November. If the forecast temperature for the day of the walk is 32ºC or greater, the walk is cancelled. The following week’s walk will start from the same location as the cancelled walk. Occasionally we will decide on the day to cancel a walk due to inclement weather – this is very rare in Adelaide! (We can always go for an early coffee!)
